These terms of service govern your use of UnitConversion.free, a free, ad-supported, browser-only unit conversion site operated by Kevin Kinnett. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
Acceptable use
UnitConversion.free is intended for ordinary, lawful, personal and professional use of the calculator pages, dimension hubs, pair-specific routes, and reference content. You may use the site for unit conversion in any reasonable context: everyday calculations, school work, professional engineering reference, content production, or anything else where a unit converter is useful.
You may not (a) attempt to disrupt, degrade, or compromise the site's availability for other users, including via automated scraping at rates that materially affect site performance; (b) use the site as part of an unauthorized data-harvesting or aggregator pipeline that republishes the site's prerendered content; (c) reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the underlying conversion catalog beyond the public interface; or (d) use the site in a way that violates applicable law.
Accuracy disclaimer and no warranty
The conversions on this site are computed from a typed unit catalog with base factors set to the precision of the relevant international definitions (NIST SP 811, the BIPM SI brochure, ISO standards, and similar primary sources). Results are bounded by JavaScript double-precision arithmetic (IEEE 754 binary64, about 15-17 significant decimal digits) and by the precision of the registered constants.
For everyday use, the calculator's accuracy substantially exceeds the precision the use case requires. For safety-critical, legal, regulated, financial, medical, or otherwise consequential work, you should cross-reference any result against your governing standard rather than relying on the calculator alone. The site is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
The operator does not guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Outages, deploy issues, and content errors can and will happen. If you find a content error, please report it to [email protected] so it can be corrected.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the operator be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or use, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, UnitConversion.free, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory, even if the operator has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you. Where local law mandates a non-excludable warranty or remedy, that remedy stands; the operator's total aggregate liability for any claim related to the site is limited to the amount you paid the operator for the site in the preceding twelve months, which for a free site is zero.
Intellectual property
The site's content, including prerendered text, reference tables, FAQ entries, methodology explanations, page structure, navigation, and visual design, is original work by Kevin Kinnett unless otherwise attributed. International standards bodies (NIST, BIPM, ISO) are credited as primary sources for definitional conversion factors but are not copyright owners of this site's content.
Reasonable factual quotation (a conversion result, a formula, a value from a table) for non-commercial educational or reference use is welcomed; attribution back to the source page on UnitConversion.free is appreciated and helps other users find the site. Wholesale republishing of the site's prose, FAQ, or page templates is not permitted without written permission.
Advertising
UnitConversion.free is an ad-supported site. Google AdSense integration is in progress; once approved, the site will serve advertising via the Google AdSense network. Advertisements are selected and placed by Google, not by the site operator. The operator does not endorse advertised products or services. If you encounter an ad that violates Google's advertising policies (deceptive, malicious, or otherwise inappropriate), report it through Google's ad-feedback channel.
Privacy
Your use of the site is also governed by the privacy policy, which describes what data the site does and does not collect, how analytics is handled, and how to exercise privacy rights.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated when site behavior changes (new third-party integrations, new acceptable-use rules, changes to applicable law). The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a material change to these terms constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and, where applicable, the operator's state of residence, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes arising from these terms or from use of the site will be brought in the courts of competent jurisdiction in that location, unless mandatory local consumer-protection law provides for a different forum.
